Kohler Co. is a leader in kitchen and bath plumbing products, decorative tile, engines & generators, and golf & resorts. As part of their sustainability strategy Kohler has launched the WasteLAB.  Asking the question, “What if the word ‘waste’ didn’t exist?”, the WasteLAB is working to find the potential and beauty in landfill-bound industrial by-products.

The WasteLAB has partnered with Michigan Tech’s Consumer Product Manufacturing Enterprise to develop economical and environmentally sustainable ways to re-think the handling of existing resin waste streams.

Robert Dupont

My name is Robert Dupont and I am the team leader for the Kohler Resin Recycling project. I am a 5th year Chemical Engineering student at Michigan Technological University with a minor in Polymer Science and Engineering. I have completed a co-op with Bemis as a process engineer working closely with the blown film department at their Neenah plant. I have also worked for two summers with acpo, one as a coating assistant and the other as a quality/process technician where I helped develop a couple of coatings for films. This past Summer I spent 10 weeks at the University of Alabama in a Research Experience for Undergrads program where I was developing an analysis technique for Oxy-Combustion flames that utilized Raman Scattering. My previous CPM experience includes a full year working with Kimberly-Clark on a sustainability focused product packaging project.
